Cast Art

I was asked to make the Cast Art (or magic runes) for the book.

Design Process

Software: Adobe Illustrator

Design Problem: Create the final versions of the cast art (or magic runes) for the book

Target Audience: Children who will read the book

Background: "Method for Magic and Misfortune" by Craig Kofi Farmer is a book by Macmillan Publishers. “A boy discovers magic ― along with a hidden darkness ― in his town in this propulsive and heartfelt middle grade novel perfect for fans of PET and THE LOST LIBRARY”.

Design Process: I was given a list of the desired casts (or magic runes) along with a description of how they looked from the book. Here is an example of the Burst Cast: “Another is an infinity symbol with interconnected, squiggly lines coming off the rounded ends, like the DNA helixes we learned about in science class.” They also provided sketches to use as a starting point for the final Adobe Illustrator Designs.

Design Solution: I created polished cohesive final cast art designs for the book.
