Ad Campaign: Subaru
Software: Photoshop
Design Problem: Create an advertising campaign for Subaru’s Outback using three different antique paintings
Target Audience: People interested in buying cars
Background: A huge part of the actual Subaru advertising campaign is about what makes a Subaru stand out from the rest of its competition. Many other car companies focus on the special features of a car, but Subaru focuses more on the actual owners of the car and the things they love. Their love for their families, friends, pets, and lifestyles. Subarus are not good cars because they are reliable, safe, and long-lasting, which they are, but Subarus are good cars because of the love from the people who own them. I wanted to show that everyday people who love to travel with their family, people who love outdoor activities, or people who love to visit with friends all love Subarus. Love. It’s what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.
Design Process: The brand Subaru is all about the customers, so the paintings I selected had to be somehow centered around people. The color of the car I used in the advertisement had to fit the vintage feeling of the paintings, so I chose a blue/gray color. I wanted the paintings to feel as if you were looking at artwork in a museum, so I added a golden frame to give it that feeling. I wanted to include the Subaru tagline as well as the logo in the ad to make sure the Subaru brand came across.
Design Solution: Use Photoshop filters to make the car, tagline, and logo appear as if it is a part of the original painting, incolor, texture and lighting, so that Subaru looks like it is a brand that has been around for a long time, just like the paintings.
